Hawkins and Sefton (2011) compared the stability of sport shooters using different foot spacings: 30cm, 45cm, 60cm, 75cm, and 90cm (measured from heel to heel). The stability was measured using a Front Range platform, and the shooting mechanics were assessed by an optoelectronic NOPTEL system.
The study was conducted in the United States with 12 national-level shooters. Each shooter performed 10 shots in each of the positions.
The researchers found the best results at distances of 45cm and 60cm and did not observe any improvement as the feet were placed further apart.
