Quiet Eye (QE) is the final fixation on the target during the preparation phase of a movement aimed at that goal. Specifically, QE can be defined as a motor skill involving the final part of searching for a specific location or object in the visual field of 3° for a minimum of 100ms (Vickers, 2007). Causer et al. (2010) compared 24 elite trap shooters with 24 sub-elite shooters. The elite shooters demonstrated faster and more prolonged initial focus compared to the sub-elite ones.
There are studies relating QE – and its respective training – to sports such as basketball, baseball, billiards, golf, and, obviously, shooting.
If you want to learn about the scientific methods that guide the best training for this skill, join us at Projeto Papyrus – the study group of the Brazilian Academy of Arms – or come train with us.
Our motto, “nullius in verba,” is engraved in stone, not in the sand.
